Guernsey

Located in Wyoming’s eastern plains, Guernsey is where western history and outdoor adventure meet to bring a true Wyoming experience. Settled right off the North Platte River, Guernsey offers world-class outdoor recreation, including some of the best trout fishing.

Pitch a tent in Guernsey State Park and enjoy a weekend of kayaking on Guernsey Reservoir, hiking numerous trails and wildlife viewing. Not far from Guernsey are the Oregon Trail Ruts, the preserved historic site where pioneers once took the lengthy journey west and left behind five-foot deep wagon ruts. Walk through the impressive remnants of the Oregon Trail, then take the worthwhile drive south to Register Cliff and see the carved names of those who documented their passage. Learn more about the western settlement and Native American resistance at Fort Laramie National Historic Site, a 20-minute drive from Guernsey. In the 1800s, Fort Laramie National Historic Site was a fur trading post and held significant treaty negotiations, including the Treaty of Fort Laramie.
