Nestled along the North Platte River near Alcova Reservoir, this small town offers plenty of opportunities for anglers, watersports enthusiasts and history buffs alike.

Try your luck fly fishing on the Grey Reef Reservoir, which sits just north of Alcova. Anglers can also fish Alcova Reservoir, or travel a bit farther southwest to access Pathfinder Reservoir and Wyoming’s famous Miracle Mile fly-fishing stretch. These reservoirs can also be enjoyed through boating, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and other forms of water recreation. Rentals are available at Alcova Resort, which also features a restaurant, ice cream shop and convenience store. Stay on shore to experience hikes like the Cottonwood Creek Dinosaur Trail, an interpretive trail that takes visitors through geological eras. Other nearby historic destinations include Independence Rock State Historic Site and Martin’s Cove, both of which showcase different aspects of pioneer life as they traveled west along the Mormon, California and Oregon trails. A 30-mile drive northeast will take you to Casper, where you can find more options for restaurants, lodging and other amenities.
