Fort Bridger

The town of Fort Bridger is located less than a mile away from Fort Bridger State Historic Site.

The community was named after trapper James “Jim” Bridger, who established a trading post and blacksmith shop in the area. Fort Bridger State Historic Site, also named after the iconic mountain man, showcases historic structures and remnants from several of the groups the fort served over time, including the Mountain Men, Mormons and Military. The small town of Fort Bridger offers a number of accommodations for those visiting the historic site, including lodging, restaurants and shopping. If you’re in town during the first weekend of September, be sure to attend the Fort Bridger Rendezvous. This annual event celebrates the Fur Trade Rendezvous Era that occurred in the Rocky Mountains between 1825 and 1840. It’s one of the largest mountain man gatherings in the nation, offering up Old West fun and plenty of opportunities to learn about a quintessential time in American history.
