Sheridan

The town of Sheridan, Wyoming has been recognized as a dog-friendly city. This Western town boasts three off-leash dog parks, has numerous dog-friendly trails, and even has bragging rights surrounding pet-friendly restaurants. Your Wyoming travels with that furry companion will be made so much easier if Sheridan is on your road trippin’ list. 

Trail Exploration

Found at the foot of the Bighorn Mountains, the Red Grade Trails system is an off-leash experience for Fido and is open year-round. You have your choice of routes here, with almost 14 miles to explore. Dog Park Options

Start-up or wind down your day at one of Sheridan’s dog parks. Choose from Huntington Bowl, North Park, or Lions Club Park to make sure your pet gets the full experience. Casper

Located in Central Wyoming, the city of Casper offers multiple ways to enjoy the history of the state. The surrounding area features many accessible trails that are dog friendly, but leash laws may still apply. 

Trail Exploration

The Muddy Mountain Loop Trail is a combination of forested terrain and open meadows. This loop takes you on an adventure that is over 3 miles in length but is considered an easy route with virtually no elevation gain. The trail is easy on humans as well as dogs.

Dog Park Options

The bonus to your Casper visit is that the town boasts two dog parks. The Morad Off-Leash Area and the fenced-in Lake McKenzie Dog Park are both worth a try.

Green River

Found along I-80, Green River, Wyoming presents the perfect stopping point if in the midst of a long journey through the West. This locale can provide a respite from the road for your dog, too. 

Trail Exploration

Scott’s Bottom Nature Area offers several trails for recreation and is a local’s favorite for outdoor enjoyment. With trails and easy access to the river, this is a dog’s adventure. If you are looking to spend a full day outdoors, you humans have found a 637-acre community park with scenic views, wide open spaces, and multiple picnic shelters. 

Dog Park Options

In the neighboring town of Rock Springs, the Bitter Creek Bark Park features not just green space, but also a pond. This is a great chance for a puppy to get an open run and a quick dip.

Hotel Accommodations

Green River’s location near Flaming Gorge, and the fact that driving through may mean you are on your way to Yellowstone, makes it an optimal place to stop and rest. Lander

Lander is considered one of the most beautiful places to visit in Wyoming. This has a lot to do with the surrounding rock formations, the Wind River mountain range, and the Popo Agie River that flows through this stunning piece of the state. Your visit will be memorable, and your furry hiking pal will happily enjoy the wide-open spaces along with you.

Trail Exploration

Your dog must be on a leash at Sinks Canyon State Park, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t dog friendly. The North Slope Trail in the park is not to be missed. This out-and-back moderate ramble is just over 3 miles and features pockets of thick forest, river access, and majestic views. Check the park rules to ensure you understand dog etiquette for the park. 

Dog Park Options

Lander Dog Park is located at 350 A Baldwin Creek Road. Take your best friend for an unbridled turn within the fenced area of this medium-sized park. A puppy playground that features a separate area for more timid dogs, it is open from sunrise to sunset.

There are just a handful of pet-friendly hotels in Lander. Check availability at The Inn at Lander or Holiday Inn Express & Suites.

Laramie

A college town, Laramie, Wyoming features some of the state’s best recreational options in its surrounding area. Much of this is Forest Service property and presents bountiful open areas that are dog friendly. Be sure to contact the Laramie Ranger District office to ensure you understand leash laws. 

Trail Exploration

The Pilot Hill Recreation Area provides public access to the foothills that surround Laramie. The options in trail length are many, with a total of 32 miles comprising the network. There are two sizable dog parks in Laramie, the Optimist Dog Park and the Sandy Aragon Dog Park. Each of these is located on the outer edge of a larger park, and both are fenced. Visit the Park’s page at Visit Laramie for more information.
