Laramie, Wyoming is well-known for many things. It’s the home of the University of Wyoming, of course, and has a strong Western culture. It also has a rich history closely tied to cattle ranching, rodeo, and the development of the railroad.
The city also enjoys unique geography, sitting at 7,165 feet elevation — well over one full mile above sea level — and directly between two mountain ranges. Needless to say, there are plenty of things to do in Laramie, particularly for outdoor lovers and adventure enthusiasts.
Top 5 Things to do in Laramie Outdoors
Perhaps you prefer to explore trails on foot, or maybe you’d rather familiarize yourself with the backcountry in an ATV. 1. Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest

Located within Medicine Bow National Forest, the Snowy Range area — or “Snowies” — provides year-round outdoor recreation.
True to its name, snow is present here for much of the year, making it a major winter destination. Take advantage of snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing, or head to Snowy Range Ski area for downhill skiing and snowboarding. In the summer and fall, don’t miss driving the stunning Snowy Range Scenic Byway.
