Wyoming State Capitol

Cheyenne | Park to Park

As one of only 20 state Capitols designated as a National Historic Landmark and with a history that dates back to 1888, the Wyoming Capitol is one of the most significant buildings in the state. The Capitol underwent a four-year restoration in 2019 transforming the building to the historic grandeur of its original architecture. This can’t-miss site has incredible architecture and is the seat of Wyoming’s executive and legislative branches of government.

On the second level of the Capitol, visit one of the most significant chambers in the country. It was in this room the Constitutional Convention was held while Wyoming was seeking statehood in 1889. A large part of the convention debate focused on women’s suffrage, a right Wyoming women had held in the territory since 1869. Here, impassioned delegates crafted a constitution
that recognizes all members of the human race as equal and protects rights for all, regardless of sex or race, making Wyoming the first state in the country to affirm a women’s right to vote, hold office, and sit on juries.

The Capitol is open for self-guided tours Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and includes extended hours in the summer months Monday through Friday form 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. & Saturdays 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
