Riverton Museum

Riverton | Rockies to Tetons

Agriculture, Native American Culture, geology, cowboys and mining are important aspects of the Wind River region and the Riverton Museum explores all of these subjects through exhibits, interpretation, the Wyoming Community Bank Discovery Speakers Series, the Wind River Visitors Council Adventure Trek Series and the Bailey Tire/Pit Stop Children’s Exploration Series.
The Riverton Museum collects, preserves and interprets artifacts that have a direct association with Riverton history, eastern Fremont County communities, the Eastern Shoshone peoples, the Northern Arapaho peoples and regional history as it relates to Fremont County. The Riverton museum also may collect items that represent specific aspects of history and culture that help educate through the exhibits and programing.
Fremont County has a rich history. Beginning in prehistoric times, many have made this area their home – ancient peoples, American Indians, and – through Western Migration – the white man. Our Historic Walking Tour concerns itself with the settling of the Riverton area by means of its historic buildings. Go to our website to learn more about Riverton’s unique history and its buildings.
Our ReDiscover The Winds: A Wyoming History Podcast is a great way for you to learn about the stories of Wind River Country here.
