Did you know that when the railroad was being built, the longest stop in its construction history was in Cheyenne? That caused an extraordinary boom and the building of very ornate buildings including an opera house and a social club. Cheyenne was such a fancy place in the late 1800’s it was nicknamed Paris of the West. (Coincidentally, the building known as the Central Plaza was originally built in 1961 and commissioned by Union Pacific as a convenient lodging and dining destination for train personnel who could just get off the train and walk up the street.)
