Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area | Salt to Stone

The Firehole Campground is located in the Ashley Forest along the banks of the Green River. The campground is located at 6,300ft elevation with 36 single campsites, 2 double sites for up to 16 people each, and a day use picnic area on the banks of the Green River above the dam. A group camping area with shelter is available for up to 10 people. The campground area offers a boat ramp, beach area, dump station, fish cleaning station, and restrooms with showers. Public showers are available for a fee.

Motorized and non-motorized boating, waterskiing, and swimming are available at the lake along picnicing and scenic driving. Fishing is great in Flaming Gorge Reservoir for mackinaw (lake trout), Utah chub, rainbow trout, channel catfish, and smallmouth bass. The Green River below the dam is one of the best trout streams in the country, and is also popular among rafters and kayakers.

There are over 220 miles of trails in the NRA. Sheep Canyon Geological Area, just west of the NRA, features stunning scenic panoramas, framed by colorfully-striated cliffs.

The campgrounds are open from mid-May through Labor Day. Fees are $18/single and $36/double. Call 1.877.444.6777 or go to www.recreation.gov for reservations.
