Located on the North Platte River and near the Laramie Peak Range of the Medicine Bow National Forest, Douglas offers an abundance for the outdoor enthusiast. The campground is located 1.5 miles outside of town in a peaceful country setting only minutes away from a world of activities.
You can raft on the river, hike in the mountains, fish in the streams or boat in nearby Glendo reservoir. If you fancy wildlife, we have it! Converse County has the largest population of pronghorn in the nation as well as herds of white tail and mule deer, elk and big horn sheep. Right on and within site of the campground you can enjoy the abundance of rabbits and antelope and……the occasional Jackalope. (But NO hunting allowed on the camping grounds!) Visit the Ayres National Bridge for a scenic lunch or climb Laramie Peak for a great workout! Nature is endless around Douglas!
And for campers interested in 19th century history and the nostalgic western days, you will be surrounded by historical sites to visit. The Oregon, Mormon and Bozeman Trails passed through this area. You can visit Register Cliff near Guernsey State Park, see an Oregon Trail tombstone near Glenrock and visit the Pioneer Museum in Douglas for an abundance of history! Fort Fetterman is only a 15 minute drive away and Fort Laramie an hour. And if the rodeo urge gets to you, take in the Wyoming State Fair and Rodeo here in Douglas every August!
