GREEN RIVER RENDEZVOUS DAYS AT THE MUSEUM OF THE MOUNTAIN MAN

With dozens of free educational programs during Green River Rendezvous Days, the Museum of the Mountain Man is not to be missed. Located on the hill above town, the Museum presents a visual and interpretative experience into the romantic era of the 1800s Mountain Man and provides a comprehensive overview of the Western Fur Trade’s historical significance.

The American Mountain Men Trapper’s camp, north of the Museum at the amphitheater, hosts interactive lectures and demonstrations throughout Rendezvous weekend. Topics include firearms, sign language, beaver trapping, clothes, tools, fire making, horse tack and packing, and a Saturday night gathering for stories & songs.

Just across the parking lot from the main entrance, Michael “Bad Hand”, Native American Historian and Ethnologist, gives an overview of life of the Plains Indians in the 1800’s. Bad Hand is a local favorite, and each presentation touches on a separate theme and piece of daily life, complete with meticulously researched samples of the clothing and tools used in the era.

For the youngsters, Lapita & Dan Frewin offer hands on Children’s Programs on Friday and Saturday, with morning and afternoon sessions in the giant Sun Lodge at the south end of the Museum grounds. Make and take Native American crafts are fun, educational and free.

The annual Rocky Mountain Fur Trade Journal Forum offers lectures by noted historians and authors as well as discussion panels. Thursday evening brings the annual Western Art & Wine Auction.
