Fremont Lake

Fremont Lake is the second largest natural lake in Wyoming and one of the nation;s most deep. Located just four miles from Pinedale, this lake is twelve miles long and ½ mile wide. This pristine Wind River Mountain lake offers a variety of recreation opportunities including boating and sailing, water skiing, fishing, and camping areas across the lake.

Fremont Lake is the jewel of the lush Bridger-Teton National Forest with a majority of its shoreline undeveloped. One of the most popular things to do is to take the iconic Skyline Scenic Drive up to Elkhart Park to capture its spectacular natural setting at the base of the Winds.

Fremont Lake was created thousands of years ago when glacial ice deposited a moraine at the lower end, trapping the mountain waters. The lake is over 600 feet deep at its deepest point, and it was named after John C. Fremont, who surveyed the area in 1842 while mapping the Oregon Trail.

To reach Fremont Lake, take Fremont Lake Road just east of Ridley's Grocery Store. At 2.5 miles, you will reach Fremont Lake Overlook with a historical marker and spectacular view of the lake. At 3.2 miles, a sign will direct you to turn left for Fremont Lake. Turn left and stay left at the fork to visit Sandy Beach, CCC Ponds Recreation Area, and Lower Boat Launch.

Lakeside Lodge and Marina is on the lower end of Fremont Lake. They offer boat, paddle boat and board rentals, food, and have twelve cabins with a private boat launch. Visit thewww.visitpinedale.org for more information on access and activities.
