Dubois Museum: Wind River Historical Center

The Dubois Museum collects, preserves and interprets artifacts spanning from the Precambrian Era to the timber industry’s end in the 1980s, primarily focusing on the Upper Wind River Valley, Fremont County, Western Wyoming and the Rocky Mountain Region. Exceptional artifacts from other periods and areas are also considered if they enhance our understanding of these regions. The museum’s mission is to preserve and interpret the history of the Upper Wind River Mountain region, highlighting guest ranching, tie hacks, Native American culture, geology and agriculture.
Tie Hack Memorial

The Tie Hack Memorial, 12 miles northwest of Dubois on U.S. Highway 26/287, honors the men who cut railroad ties out of Wyoming forests and floated them down flumes and rivers for the Wyoming Tie and Timber Company, under contract with the Chicago and North Western Railroad.

Dubois Fish Hatchery

Visitors are encouraged to explore the Dubois Fish Hatchery, a pivotal facility located five miles east of town. Here, the majority of Wyoming’s cutthroat trout eggs are nurtured, along with the care and cultivation of young rainbow, golden, brook and brown trout. These cutthroat trout eggs originate in the Wind River mountains and are raised at the hatchery for eventual release into high mountain lakes throughout the state. Operated by the Wyoming Game & Fish Department since 1922, you can easily find this fish hatchery about five miles southeast of Dubois by following the highway signs.

The National Museum of Military Vehicles in Dubois is a 140,000 square-foot facility showcasing 400+ military vehicles and historical artifacts spanning over 100 years of American military history from WWI to the Global War on Terror. Highlights include a well-curated WWII vehicle gallery, a weapons vault, a post-WWII vehicle exhibit and an artifacts gallery featuring historically significant items like General Patton’s .45 sidearm and a rare UH-1B Huey. The museum also offers a theater, meeting rooms, a gift shop and a research library.
