Snowshoeing is one of the simplest ways to get out and explore the beautifully snow-blanketed landscape that abounds in Wyoming. Rental snowshoes are inexpensive and easy to find, and there’s no expert training needed to start — just put one foot in front of the other. Once you’re strapped into the extra-large footwear, you can practically float over the snow to see pristine places where no car, truck or snowmobile could take you.

A range of experiences, from guided tours and alpine parks to open trails, are available around the state to suite your expertise level and goals. At Timberline Lodge in southwest Wyoming, access to the entire resort, snowshoe rental and a lift ticket are very affordable. Yellowstone and Bridger Teton National Parks, Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, Shoshone National Forest and many other public lands welcome visitors to explore non-motorized trails via snowshoe. Groups like the Jackson Hole Hiking experience offer guided excursions that provide educational insight about ecology and wildlife from local naturalists.
