The banker Joseph Dayton Thorn is who this town is named after. This small town gained fame in 1911 when the first woman, Susan Whissler was elected to be mayor. Only 29 years after the town was established. Dayton also held the first Wyoming rodeo in 1890.

Dayton sits at the foot of the Bighorn Mountains and marks the beginning of the Bighorn Scenic Byways.

Don’t Miss:  Memorial and Labor Day  weekends host Hang Glider Fly-in Festivals.  Just up Hwy 14 from Dayton, lies an area known for it’s “thermals.”  You can watch these thrill seeking enthusiasts from an enlarged pullout and may even be asked to take vehicles down the mountain.
