Star Valley is one community made up of 12 towns along a stretch of US-89. You can find these towns here, listed from south to north as you make your way toward the Tetons and Yellowstone National Park.
With a population of just under 200, Smoot is predominantly a farming and ranching town on the southern end of Star Valley. The town offers a general store and quick access to Bridger-Teton National Forest. Affordable, family-friendly skiing can be found at Pine Creek Ski Resort, located just 52 miles south of Smoot near Cokeville, Wyoming.
This community of nearly 300 residents was settled in 1885 and named for the beautiful vistas surrounding the town.
Home to the world's largest elk antler arch, the Afton Snowmobile Hill Climb Challenge and the Lincoln County Fair, Afton offers small-town fun year round, as well as local lodging. The nearby Swift Creek features Intermittent Springs, the largest cold water geyeser.
This small town houses one of the oldest buildings in Star Valley: the Old Auburn Rock Church. The church was built on the public square in 1889 and served as an LDS church as well as a meeting place and activity hall for the entire town.

Located just west of US-89, Turnerville is circled by offshoot creeks of the Salt River, including Willow Creek and White Pine Creek.
The nearby Strawberry Creek and wide-open spaces surrounding this small Star Valley town make it ideal for anglers and hunters. Get off the map and into a cozy log cabin at Preston Ranch, where affordable, streamside cabins offer wildlife viewing, nearby hiking, horseback riding and more.
This beautiful town offers several lodging options (including RV sites), a market and other local amenities. Star Valley Ranch
Easy hiking trail access to nearby Prater Canyon, Green River Canyon and Cedar Creek make Star Valley Ranch a great stop for exploring Bridger-Teton National Forest. Several area golf courses in this town, including Leisure Valley Golf Course, offer up spectacular views of the valley's rolling hillside and mountain views.
Located just west of the winding Salt River, Freedom is home to Freedom Arms, Inc., a weapons factory that includes a handgun display for visitors to peruse.
This small Wyoming town is just east of the Salt River and features a series of offshoot creeks.
The Greys, Snake and Salt rivers all meet near this town on the northern edge of Star Valley, making it the perfect oasis for fly fishing and water sports. Greys River Sports rents fishing gear, stand-up paddleboards and kayaks. Alpine also is known for its miles of premier snowmobiling trails, with snowmobile rentals available at the local JH Adventure Rentals. This quiet Wyoming town is just 42 miles south of Grand Teton National Park.
